Naeem Islam was instrumental in Rangpur’s clinching the title in National Cricket League last season. He was one of the highest run scorers of the tournament, scoring 703 at an averege of 78.11 with smashing 3 centuries and equal number of half centuries. He also made a decent start of the season as he made 46 in the only innings he played of the drawn first round of the competition. And now his good performance has paid off as he has been included in the 13-man BCB XI to play a three-day match against Australia from October 3 to 5.

Naeem, who last played an international match for Bangladesh in 2014, was quite pleased to be called up in the BCB XI. He is not bothered with the fact that he is not probably going to make the national squad for the two-match Test series. What matters to him most is that he at least has got a chance to face the Aussies, regardless which team he is to play for.

“It’s very fortunate to get a chance to play against Australia. They are coming with a good team. They have some good bowlers, specially some pacers in Peter Siddle and Mitchell Starc. They both are world class player. Performing well against them will be a good feeling. That’s why I am considering myself very lucky.”

The 31-year-old also knows that if he can make the opportunity of playing against Australia count, then there will be chance for him to return to the national side as well. So Naeem, who has so far played 18 first-class matches, is looking to utilize this opportunity in a good deal.
