Four Australians in ICC Test Team of the year 2022

One of the two openers is Usman Khawaja. The Australian batsman returned to Test cricket after two and a half years early last year. In the return match, he scored a double century in the Sydney Test of the Ashes.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the Test team of the year 2022 on Tuesday. Maximum four cricketers are from Australia. England have three. Apart from this, one each from India, Pakistan, West Indies and South Africa is in the team.
One of the two openers is Usman Khawaja. The Australian batsman returned to Test cricket after two and a half years early last year. In the return match, he scored a double century in the Sydney Test of the Ashes. Then on the tour of Pakistan, he scored 496 runs at an average of 165.33.  The left-handed batter made three more fifties during the rest of the year. He finished the year with 1080 runs at an average of 67.50.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite, another opener in the XI, played a major role in the series win over England at home in March last year. He was the highest scorer of the series. He played a marathon innings of 160 runs in the first innings of the second Test. He scored two fifties in the series.
He then played two innings of 94 and 51 runs in the two-match Test series win against Bangladesh. At the end of the year, he scored a total of 174 runs, including an innings of 110 runs in the Perth Test on the tour of Australia. Overall, last year he scored 687 runs in 14 innings at an average of 62.45.
Marnus Labuschagne is at number three. The Australian batter played an innings of 90 runs in the first Test on the tour of Pakistan. Later he scored a century with the bat in the tour of Sri Lanka. He scored most runs in the series against the West Indies at home. He scored centuries in three of the four innings, one of which was a double. In all, Labuschagne scored 957 runs at an average of 56.29 in the year.
Babar Azam is the next name in the squad. The Pakistan captain scored four centuries and seven fifties last year. He scored 390 runs in the series against Australia at home, 348 in the series against England. He scored his career-best innings of 196 against Australia in Karachi in March. Overall, he scored 1184 in 9 matches at an average of 69.94. Against each of the four teams he played against, the century came from his bat.
Jonny Bairstow, who has had a dream year in Test cricket, has secured a place in the XI. The English batter started the year with a century against Australia in the Sydney Test. He scored 140 runs in his first innings on the West Indies tour.   
He then poured in a flood of runs in the English summer. His runs were 136, 162, 71*, 106* and 114* in five consecutive innings combined against New Zealand and India. The impact of the innings on the match was great. Overall, Bairstow scored 1061 runs in 10 innings with 6 centuries at an average of 66.31.
Ben Stokes is the captain of the team. Under his leadership, England ushered in a new era of attacking mentality in Test cricket in 2022. He took over at the start of the English summer and led the team to 9 Test wins.  
This all-rounder also contributed with the bat-ball. He dropped to number six and scored 870 runs with two centuries at an average of 36.25. He took 26 wickets in bowling.
Rishabh Pant of India is the wicket-keeper in the team for the second time in a row after another great year. He scored 680 runs in 12 innings at an average of 61.81 and a strike rate of 90.90. There are four fifties along with two centuries.
One of the three specialist pacers in the XI is Pat Cummins. The Australian captain led the team from the front and took 36 wickets at an average of 21.83 in 10 Tests that year.
Kagiso Rabada, the best weapon in South Africa's pace attack, has also been included in the XI. He took 47 wickets in 9 Tests last year. He has taken at least 10 wickets with all the four teams he has played against in the series.
The only specialist spinner in the XI is Nathan Lyon. The Australian off-spinner took 47 wickets in 11 Tests last year. In 2022, despite turning 40 years old, James Anderson has got a place in the playing eleven. The English pacer took 36 wickets in 9 Tests last year.
