The two times defending champions were set for a costly defeat in Mirpur today against the defending champions Rangpur Riders. But the debutant had other plan as he bowled a match winning spell under pressure. Chasing a target of 184 runs, Rangpur seemed to be cursing thanks to a marauding innings of Rilee Rossouw, who made 83 off 44 balls, before Dhaka bowlers, led by unheralded Aliss, completed the turnaround.
Aliss dragged Rossouw out of his crease for stumping in his second over to end his 121-run third wicket partnership with Mohammad Mithun before he dismissed Mithun (49), Mashrafe bin Mortaza ( 0) and Farhad Reza (0) to complete his hat-trick. The victory of Dhaka, however, was not assured until Aliss kept his cool in the final over of the innings to concede just 11-run and finish with 4-26, restricting Rangpur to 181-9 in 20 overs .
The match winner himself was more than shy after such heroics, while his post match interview with the media. Aliss, who was rarely known by maximum journalists before the match was almost their biggest star of the match in the end. The off-spinner was almost bound to share his earlier identitiy, when he said I used to ball on nets before I was considered for the squad.
Aliss Islam who ensured his team Dhaka Dynamites does not lose their place from the table said, “My name is Aliss Islam. I was a member from the net bowlers of Dhaka Dynamites. Earlier I also had played in the First Division Cricket League of Dhaka.”
He was able to come in the notice of former Bangladeshi cricketer and current coach of his team Khaled Mahmud Sujon. The former national captain played the biggest role to introduce him in the senior level.
The off-spinner explained the story, “Sujon Sir noticed me while bowling in the nets. He was convinced enough that I would do well so he included me in his squad. Than it was my team management as well as my team mates who were kind enough to support me. And it was only than I was able to enter the playing XI for the match.”
It was also his first ever match at Mirpur Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SNBCS), let alone even Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). That is why he was nervous during the battle of forty overs, dropped two vital catches as well. But his team mates never lost their faith from him.
The new sensation of capital city said, “Actually this was my first BPL match. Instead I must say it was the first time I played in this stadium. But I earned huge support from my team mate and Coach when I dropped those catches. Everyone stepped ahead to give me the belief I needed. Than I was confirm I can still succeed if I bowl at right channel. That is what I wanted to actually.”
