Ganguly picks his favourites between India and South Africa
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that India start as firm favourites to win the competitions against South Africa. Though India haven’t won a T20I series in their den against South Africa, Ganguly reckons Virat Kohli & Co will script history this time around. There is no doubt that India are a tough team to beat at home conditions.
“India are favourites. India at home is a dangerous team. They are very hard to beat and that’s been the case for years,” Sourav Ganguly, who is the face of Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, said at the announcement of the 6th edition of the event scheduled on December 15.
On Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future, Ganguly said, “I don’t know what the selectors think, what Virat (Kohli) thinks. They are an important person, let them make the decision.”
Sourav Ganguly says that Virat Kohli is still the best batsman in the world and his records speak huge volumes. Kohli who is the only batsman who has come close to Sachin Tendulkar in terms of consistency and scoring centuries has a long journey to travel. It is pretty much certain that he would break many more records in the times to come.
However, there has been a debate between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith of late as to who is the best in the world. Ganguly settled the debate by giving a perfect answer.
“These are questions not to be answered. How does it matter? It’s about performance. Virat is the best in the world at the moment. So that’s what makes us happy.
When asked about the World’s No.1 Test batsman, Steven Smith, Sourav Ganguly said: “His records speak for itself… 26 Test hundreds which is a phenomenal record.”
The first T20 was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain in Dharamsala and the second match is on September 18 in Mohali. After that, India will also play three Tests against the Proteas.
