Ganguly praises Ashwin on being the leading wicket-taker of the decade
Ravichandran Ashwin has been an important part of Indian cricket history. He is currently a specialist bowler in Tests for India and has not been given the much-needed freedom to play across formats because wrist-spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been preferred by the Indian team management in limited-overs cricket. This is the main reason why Ravi Ashwin is playing only Test matches.
India’s premier off-spinner was last seen playing ODIs and T20Is back in June-July 2017 against West Indies. Since then, he played majority of the Test matches and some domestic matches for Tamil Nadu. Talking about his international career, Ravi Ashwin has featured in 70 Tests, 111 ODIs and 46 T20Is in which he has picked up 362, 150 and 52 wickers respectively.
Ashwin is statiscally very good in numbers as he has taken as many as 27 five-wicket hauls and 20 four-wicket hauls to his name. On top of that, Ravi Ashwin has taken 564 wickets for India, which is indeed a remarkable record. Interestingly, the numbers are the highest by any bowler in this decade. This goes to show how Ravichandran Ashwin has been an important player in Indian cricket. However, his contributions are overlooked in modern day cricket which is a sad reality.
Ganguly praises Ashwin
However, to highlight the achievement accomplished by Ravichandran Ashwin, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on Ravichandran Ashwin for his outstanding efforts. He also reckons that Ashwin is under-rated as his achievements don’t often hit the headlines.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter and wrote, “Most international wickets for Ashwin this decade. what an effort .. just get a Feeling it goes unnoticed at times .. super stuff”
