Ganguly reacts after being asked to coach Team India
Ravi Shastri managed to retain his post for another two years and Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee believes Shastri can turn things around.
The former India allrounder Shastri has outsmarted the likes of Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput to remain India’s head coach.
Shastri’s current contract will come to a close after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in 2021. This also gives an opportunity for Sourav Ganguly to step into the ring when the BCCI look for the next head coach.
Sourav Ganguly has dropped yet another massive hint on coaching the current Indian team. While Ganguly did not express the fact that he was very much thrilled but he made it very clear that the job does interest him.
The former Indian captain is the president of Cricket Association of Bengal, mentor of Delhi Capitals. He also hosts a Bengali quiz show and also does commentary occasionally.
“Let one coach finish, then we will think about the other coach,” Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of Tata Steel Kolkata 25K launch.
“In any case, I am already a coach. I look after the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. In my first season last year, they did well. They went to the semifinals from being last for last seven years so it’s been good,” he added.
Well, this is not the first time, Sourav Ganguly spoke about his chances of becoming the India coach. Earlier, he had expressed his desire of taking the cash-rich job. Around a month ago, Ganguly had also confirmed that he would step forward only to apply for the post in the future.
“Currently, I’m associated with too many things — IPL, CAB, TV commentary. Let me complete this. But I will definitely put my hat at some stage. Provided I get selected.
But definitely, I’m interested. Not now but in the future,” Sourav Ganguly previously said when the board was desperately looking for the new Indian head coach.
