Gayle pulls out of LPL 2020

The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has suffered another withdrawal, with West Indies star batsman Chris Gayle pulling out of the tournament.

Gayle was supposed to play for Kandy Tuskers franchise, but will now be unavailable. The reason for his unavailability is still unknown.

“We are sad to announce that Chris Gayle will not be playing for us in this year’s @LPLT20_,” Kandy Tuskers wrote on Twitter.

Kandy has former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, local icon Kusal Perera, Sri Lankan national team cricketers- Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep and England right-arm fast bowler Liam Plunkett in their team.

Bollywood actor Sohail Khan currently owns the team. Kandy will play Colombo Kings in the opening match of this year’s LPL on November 26 this month at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota.

Apart from Galle Gladiators, other four franchises of the tournament- Colombo Kings, Dambulla Viiking, Jaffna Stallions and Kandy Tuskers have reached Hambantota and went into bio-secure bubble.

Five teams based on various Sri Lankan cities will play a total of 23 matches and the final of the tournament will be held on December 16.
