Gayle’s 126* broke the previous highest individual score 122, which was achieved by Sabbir Rahman last year. In top four high scores of the tournament history, Gayle features thrice including 116 in 2012 and 114 in 2013.
The six machine hit 14 sixes in the innings. It is the highest number of sixes hit by a batsman in BPL. He is the only player to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings in BPL and he has done it four times. The previous BPL record was 12 sixes for Dhaka Gladiators against Sylhet Royals in 2013.
Gayle has now hit 10 or more sixes in an innings on 14 occasions. Only Brendon McCullum, Evin Lewis and Dasun Shanaka have hit 10 or more sixes in an innings twice.
Gayle has now 801 sixes in Twenty20 cricket. None other has even achieved 550 sixes in this format. His West Indian teammate Kieron Pollard has 506 sixes.
