‘Getting out on 20s and 30s is a crime’

Barishal bowlers contained the runs until Shykat Ali smacked Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi for three sixes in the 19th over which helped Chattogram post 151/7. In reply, lack of bigger knocks got Barishal short of the target.

“I thought they started pretty well and then we came back really nicely. (It) wasn’t a great wicket for batting. I think we gave way 15 too many. (We) dropped a catch which went very crucial. That three sixes in an over cost us,” Tamim said at the press conference.

“We started on pretty well with the bat but we kept on losing wickets. Especially Hriidoy and Irfan’s wickets were very crucial because at that time we had the game. We lost two quick wickets. That didn’t help.”

Tamim top-scored with a run-a-ball 32, while Afif Hossain made 24 off 22. With none of them making a big score, the former has taken the blame on themselves for failure, calling it a ‘crime’.

“Definitely, people getting out on 20s and 30s is a crime especially in T20s. Because we are the ones who have faced enough balls to see what the wicket is behaving.

“As I said, it wasn’t a great great wicket for batting. Myself and Afif had the time. One of us should’ve finished the game. Especially the team I have… I have some experience, Afif has some experience. We should take the responsibility and finish the game,” Tamim said.
