Gibbs, who came for commentary made as head coach of Colombo Kings in LPL
Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs arrived in Sri Lanka for the commentary stint in LPL and now he has been appointed as the head coach of Colombo Kings.
Sri Lanka’s brand new T20 league is all set to kickstart on November 26 in Hambantota. All the 23 matches of the league will be played within 15 days in the same venue. The opening game will be between Colombo Kings and Kandy Tuskers.
With less than 10 days to go for the tournament, still there are confusions with the players and support staff who are going to take part in the league. The confusions led to an interesting changeover for the former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs.
The former cricketer arrived in Sri Lanka as one of the members of commentary panel for the league. But now he has been appointed as the head coach of Colombo Kings. Gibbs will take the place of Kabir Ali who was supposed to be the head coach of the team. At the last moment, Kabir Ali pulled out of the tournament since he was tested positive with coronavirus.
Interestingly it was Dav Whatmore, who was appointed as the head coach of the team at the beginning. Later he pulled out of the tournament, citing personal reasons.
Along with Herschelle Gibbs, former Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath has been named as the assistant coach for Colombo Kings. He will replace former Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas. Vaas also pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
