Gibson unavailable for Sri Lanka ODIs
Bangladesh fast bowling coach Ottis Gibson will be on a leave during the home ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh Cricket Board director Akram Khan confirmed Gibson’s unavailability and said a local coach will be given an interim role.
“Ottis has taken a leave. We are thinking of appointing a local coach in his place,” Akram said.
While all other coaching stuff returned Bangladesh on Tuesday, Gibson was not one of them. The England-based Barbadian has left for United Kingdom from Sri Lanka.
Team physio Julian Calefato and strength and conditioning coach Nick Lee have also taken leave but they will be back before the ODI series.
Head coach Russell Domingo flew with the Test squad to Bangladesh instead of going back to South Africa, for COVID-related concerns.
Bangladesh’s preliminary squad players have begun training at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. Players from Test tour and the IPL will join after finishing quarantine.
The series will kick off on May 23. After this ends on the 28th, Bangladesh will head to Zimbabwe in mid-June for a full series.
