Gill, Karthik star in fifth win for KKR


Shubman Gill led the way through while Dinesh Karthik bore down the Chennai Super Kings bowling line up hard to snatch the fifth victory for Kolkata Knight Riders in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League.

 

At the home ground Eden Garden, KKR comfortably won the match by 6 wickets chasing the competitive total of 177 runs by CSK after batting first.

While defending the total, CSK opted to flying start when their South African pace recruit Lungi Ngidi walloped hard hitter Chris Lyn’s wicket in the last ball of the first over.

With 4 shots of fours and 2 for sixes, Sunil Narine scored 32 off 20 balls but Kolkata Knight Riders kept losing wickets regularly until Shubman Gill and Dinesh Karthik stood out for an unbeaten partnership of 83 runs in the fifth wicket to finish things off.

Chennai Super Kings’ innings was highlighted by Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s knock. With delicate consistency, Dhoni has been guiding his team leading from the front. The highest 43 runs was scored by the wicket keeper batsman. He was unbeaten at the end encountering 25 deliveries.

The incessant six hitting of Dhoni mobilized Chennai Super Kings’ innings in the last five overs when they raced to 177 runs from 119 for 4 at the beginning of the fifteenth over.

Little effective partnerships were built all through the CSK innings initiating by Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson partnering for 48 runs in the opening.

With the win, Kolkata Knight Riders went one step ahead to book their position in the last four of the point table.
