Gill replies MSK Prasad with his bat

Indian fans were absolutely livid with chief selector MSK Prasad for ignoring Shubman Gill in India’s squad for Caribbean tour. Gill’s talent has never been in doubt. He is a bright young prospect and even cricket experts and fans think Gill deserved to make the cut in team’s squad.

However, Shubman Gill is not really worried that he was not picked by the selectors as he is busy going about his business and building himself in a bid to make a real case for himself as India’s future No.4 batsman.

Gill shot into prominence by scoring a brisk 69 off just 40 balls (8 fours and 3 sixes) for India A where he forged a 110-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad while chasing a target of 237 set by West Indies A in the fifth and final unofficial ODI in Antigua. Gaikwad was the top-scorer with 99 while Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 61.

India comfortably won the match in 33 overs where they completed a 4-1 series victory.

India’s chairman of selectors said that Shubman Gill will have to wait for his turn. “He was given an opportunity when KL Rahul was out against New Zealand, he will have to wait for his turn,” MSK Prasad was quoted as saying by India today.

It is no brainer that the no.4 spot in the Indian ODI squad is still open to players and it appears to be a tough competition between Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer for that spot. Both of them have done remarkably well in the ongoing One-Day series in the West Indies. Shreyas Iyer has been picked in India’s T20I and ODI squad for West Indies tour.

“It was a constant struggle. While we are all supportive of the players and they had a good tournament with the exception of this bad day in office (in the semi-final against New Zealand), the support staff’s processes and decision-making will surely be scrutinized thoroughly prior to any decision being taken about their future.

The batting coach must have answers for the No. 4 question since it is obvious that it was the team management that was asking for certain players to be included,” the official on the condition of anonymity was quoted as saying by India Today.
