Groin strain rules Rabada out of Australia, India ODIs

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the one-day international series against Australia, starting in Paarl on Saturday, as well as and the subsequent three-ODI tour of India early next month.Groin strain rules Rabada out of Australia, India ODIs

The 24-year-old also faces a race to get fit in time for Delhi Capitals’ IPL opener on March 30 against Kings XI Punjab, as he sustained a groin strain during the recently-concluded T20I series against Australia which puts him out of action for four weeks.

Proteas team medical officer Dr Shuaib Manjra said on Friday that Rabada had suffered a “significant” strain which would need about four weeks to heal.

“Kagiso sustained a groin muscle strain in the T20 series against Australia. He was assessed by the medical staff, assisted by an MRI scan.

“The significant injury means that he will take approximately four weeks to heal, which effectively rules him out of both the Australia and India ODI series. The CSA medical staff will ensure his effective and expeditious recovery.”

Rabada, ranked in the top five bowlers in the world in tests and ODIs, had only just returned to action after having been banned for the final test against England last month for accumulating too many disciplinary points. He was then rested for the ODI and T20 series against England.

Rabada’s replacement has yet to be named by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
