Injury issues are keep following the Sri Lanka camp ahead of the Asia Cup as their left handed opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka had been ruled out of the tournament due to lower back injury.
The 14th edition of Asia Cup is all set to begin in United Arab Emirates on coming Saturday with the opening game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Majority of the players who are in the teams have arrived at United Arab Emirates ahead of the series.
With only one day to go for the opening encounter between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, injury concerns are threatening Lankan camp’s campaign and preparations.
Sri Lanka’s left handed opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka has been ruled out of the tournament due to lower back injury. He will travel back home for further treatments. It means the left hander has to wait for some more extent to make a come back into the Lankan team.
He was last seen in national clothes earlier January this year in ODI cricket. At the same time he was given a ban of six International games by Sri Lankan Cricket Board for an alleged breach of code of conduct regulations.
On 13th September Sri Lankan Cricket Board has confirmed his injury and named Snehan Jayasuriya as his replacement. The middle order batsman will join his team mates on 14th Septemberand he will be available for the opening game.
And this is not the first injury issue for Sri Lanka in the tournament as their wicket keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal was also ruled out due to a fractured middle finger.
Apart from these two injuries, as stated earlier Sri Lanka will miss the service of their spinner Akila Dananjaya in the group stage as the spinner will attend the birth of his first child during the time.
