Had a lot of fun playing under Mashrafe: AB de Villiers


Former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers played under Mashrafe Bin Mortaza during his first and only stint in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with Rangpur Riders.

AB de Villiers played the 2019 edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) under the leadership of Mashrafe Mortaza in Rangpur Riders. He played six matches and scored 247 runs at an average of 61.75 including a massive hundred. He had a phenomenal tournament. However, Rangpur couldn’t win the tournament in the end.

It is needless to say that it has been a treat to the eyes to see Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers play under Mashrafe in Rangpur Riders. And, the former Proteas batsman said during an interview on Cricfrenzy that he had a lot of fun to play under the former Bangladesh captain.

De Villiers also claimed thathe has a lot of similarities with Mashrafe and that made the way all too easy to get along with him.

“We’ve a lot of similarities and that’s why I think we got along so well. We’ve the same attitude in a way. He loves to fight and he’s a never say die kinda character. He loves the pressure moments and he just wants to be the guy who will stand up for the team,” he told Cricfrenzy.

“So there’s a lot of things that we see in each other and that we really enjoyed about each other. I had a lot of fun playing under him and with him as captain, he is very calm under pressure. I’ve a lot of respect for him,” he concluded.

Rangpur Riders’ journey came to an end in the 2019 edition of the BPL after suffering a defeat to Dhaka Dynamites in the play-offs.
