Harbhajan takes a jibe at Taylor’s ‘tongue poking’ celebration
New Zealand beat India by four wickets in the first ODI match at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Ross Taylor was named the man of the match for his match-winning century that helped New Zealand get off the mark in style as the hosts chased down a colossal target of 348 with 11 balls to spare.
Apart from Ross Taylor’s unbeaten 109 off 84 balls, he got support from Henry Nicholls (78 off 82 balls) and Tom Latham (69 off 48 balls).
As usual, Ross Taylor performed his trademark ‘tongue poking’ celebration after scoring his hundred. Meanwhile, the veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took a dig at Taylor’s cheeky celebration.
“What a knock @RossLTaylor well done. Tell me why do u put the tongue out every time score 100. Good game of cricket,” Harbhajan tweeted.
Ross Taylor is the only batsman who has scored more centuries batting at No.4. He has scored 19 centuries batting at this particular position. Taylor has featured in all the four biggest chases for his team and has also scored three hundreds in the games.
Since 2014, Taylor has scored a hundred on five occasions in successful chases batting at No. 4 or lower the order. No other batsman has even scored more than 2 tons in successful chases at those positions.
It was nice to get across the line. Restricting them under 350 gave us a chance. We were fortunate with the left-right hand combination and we were able to target the short boundary. Tom came in and took the pressure off me.
It’s been a happy hunting ground for me. Hopefully, we can put up a good performance in the next game. It was nice to be there at the end after I got out thrice towards the end in the T20 series,” Ross Taylor said at the post-match presentation.
