According to a Sri Lanka Cricket official, Hathurusingha will be the highest-paid coach of Sri Lanka. He was paid $340,000 by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Hathurusingha’s three-year contract with SLC will begin from December 20, when the T20I series between India and Sri Lanka starts. He is now the 11th head coach for Sri Lanka since 2011. Currently, Nic Pothas is the interim coach of Sri Lanka since Graham Ford’s departure
Hathurusingha was appointed Bangladesh’s head coach in 2014. His contract with BCB was due to end after 2019 World Cup. But the Sri Lankan gave resignation letter to the board just after Bangladesh’s South Africa tour finished.
Bangladesh achieved their best successes under him. Maiden Test wins over England, Sri Lanka and Australia, and qualifying for the quarter-finals in 2015 World Cup and semi-finals in this year’s Champions Trophy are the notable ones.
Hathurusingha is likely to arrive in Bangladesh on Saturday to finalize his end with BCB.
Hathurusingha was previously Sri Lanka A team’s coach and assistant coach of the national team till 2010. He was sacked by the then SLC board.
