We lost because of our batting – Hathurusinghe
Bangladesh cricket team played three pacers after a long time in Test cricket. Taskin Ahmed, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Subashis Roy leaded the line up for the men in red and green.
All of them bowled almost hundred overs in the match altogether (99.2 ov). They will get very short rest as the second Test is starting in three days time in Christchurch against the host.
Coach Chandika Hathurusinghe said none of them had taken this amount of pressure before the Wellington Test. Instead Taskin Ahmed played his last first class match four years ago. Subashis and Kamrul despite playing regularly in first class had not bowled this much.
But he said the condition was in the bowlers’ favor. The coach said, “Back to back test is a big physical challenge for the pacers. If you take a look in their career they had never bowled 15 overs after bowling 18 in the earlier day. So the physical challenge turns into mental challenge in this case. But good thing is the weather here is suitable for the fast bowlers.”
Chandika Hathurusinghe also said, “Our attack was great in the last match. One of our bowlers did not even played first class cricket for three years. But it cannot be an excuse. We prepared them in the way how to play in overseas countries.”
“I think they bowled brilliantly in the first test. They bowled even at 140 km/h speed, which created alot of chances. The New Zealand captain also admitted that. And what happened in the second innings, what nothing much to be done. We lost because of the batsmen,” added the Bangladesh coach.
