‘Have faith’ – A lesson from the Fizz to Shoriful
Shoriful Islam has been catching the eyes of everyone with his performance in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup where he played alongside Mustafizur Rahman for runners-up Gazi Group Chattogram.
Shoriful, the U19 World Cup winning member, said in an interview with BDCricTime that the Fizz helped him boost his confidence. The left-arm seamer bagged 16 wickets in ten matches and paired with Mustafizur, who took 22 wickets, as a fierce attack.
“Mustafiz bhai particularly taught me to have faith in ownself. If the bowler is hundred percent confident, it gets tough for even the best of the batsmen. Mustafiz bhai told me- ‘Whatever you are going to bowl, if you have belief this delivery will land perfectly, then you will be the best at it. Whatever you can do, have faith on it to be 100% successful,” Shoriful said.
The 1.9m tall 19-year-old young gun from Panchagarh district has come a long way to where he is at the moment. He is striving towards his dream.
“I grew up from a family where there was no electricity. I never gave up. My dream was big. Now I am heading towards my dream. It’s going in the right way,” he told BDCricTime.
Shoriful has so far made his appearance in 8 first-class, 27 List A and 22 T20 matches. A national call-up might be a dream not too far but there is no stopping him in trying to play well.
“I am ready if the national team calls me. It’s just not about the national team only. I am ready to deliver my best everywhere – HP (High Performance), A team. It will be great playing with the big brothers. I will get to know and learn a lot of things.
“I will try to do well in every tournament. The rest is upto selectors. I will play well irrespective of me getting chance into the national side or not. I always try to give my best. I want more tournaments like this (T20 Cup). The competitiveness will rise in the country,” he added.
