Having guys like AB de Villiers behind me is a luxury: Maxwell
It clearly seems that Glenn Maxwell has found the right franchise in the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore shelled out INR 14.25 crore to rope in the Australian all-rounder.
The 32-year-old has by far lived up to his reputation and has also justified his price tag by scoring runs quite fluently. RCB played two matches so far and won both the matches to kick start their campaign with a bang.
Maxwell chipped in with 39 off just 28 balls in the run-chase against Mumbai Indians. RCB won the game in the last ball and defeated Mumbai Indians by 2 wickets.
Talking about the all-rounder’s performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was the star of the RCB’s batting unit as he alone scored a half-century when all others failed to lift the team’s spirit.
Maxwell scored 59 off 41 balls including 5 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 143.90. He helped RCB set up a 150-run target and RCB bowlers did the job by defending the total.
Virat Kohli’s side won the game by 6 runs to register their second win of this season. RCB avenged their Eliminator defeat at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In the last season in the United Arab Emirates, the Sunrisers knocked RCB out of the competition.
Maxwell was named the man of the match for his incredible batting display against SRH. At the post-match presentation, Maxwell spoke about AB de Villiers’ presence in RCB.
“It’s a very nice start, new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. To start like this is really nice. It’s nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom with AB to come and it’s a very similar role I have in the Australian cricket team. The support staff have been backing me as well.
It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB. Maybe was pushed a bit too deep and expected to go from ball one, which I am not pretty good at. Maybe a bit of culture thing as well. Obviously..
I think it’s my 4th IPL team and there’s a bit of pressure. So it was really key for me to turn up and do well. I will wait for my chance to bowl. Washi is a superstar for us. The more I don’t bowl and hopefully I can keep contributing with the bat, the more happy I will be,” Maxwell said at the post-match presentation.
