Hogg names his Test XI of the decade
Former Australian chinaman bowler Brad Hogg has been closely following cricketing activities these days. Every now and then, he comes up with opinions on the game on social media. At times, he was also criticised for his opinions.
After the ICC came up with Test team of the decade, it was Hogg’s turn to pick his own Test team of the decade from 2011 to 2020. Shockingly, only one Indian player made it to Hogg’s list.
His list comprises 2 players from England, three from South Africa and 3 Australian players, last but not the least, one apiece from Pakistan and New Zealand.
Hogg went ahead with Alastair Cook and David Warner in the opening slot. According to Hogg, Cook is a perfect Test material and is someone who tests the patience of the opposition bowling attack. On the other hand, Warner will be a great partner as he is known for his attacking style of play.
“At the top of the order is Alastair Cook from England. Loved his temperament and his patience. Cook had a strike rate of 40, so I need someone at the other end to compliment him with a different type of pressure on my opposition bowlers, and that is David Warner from Australia. He has a strike rate of over 70, and he also piled on the runs,” Hogg explained while speaking on his YouTube channel.
The former Australian picked Kane Williamson as his No. 3 while he chose Indian captain Virat Kohli and former Aussie skipper Steve Smith for at the middle-order. “At No.3, I need someone who is reliable, someone who can bat in any situation, and I have gone for the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
At No. 4, I want someone with a little more aggression who can move the game along. I have gone for Virat Kohli from India.
“At No.5, someone who is a little unorthodox, someone who has a good strike rate, and the scoreboard will motor along if he has a partnership with Virat Kohli, and we are going to get some good entertainment with this partnership. It is Steve Smith from Australia.” Brad Hogg added.
Former veteran spinner picks Yasir Shah as the spinner of his Test XI:
AB de Villiers and all-rounder Jacques Kallis have been picked by Hogg at No.5 and 6 respectively. The former veteran spinner also added that Kallis might have retired early in this decade but believes that he has legendary records to get featured in his Test XI of the Decade.
Coming to the bowling unit, the former chinaman bowler went with Yasir Shah as the only spinner of his XI. As far as the fast bowling department is concerned, he picked James Anderson, Pat Cummins and Dale Steyn.
