Hogg suggests India to drop Samson or Iyer to accommodate Pant in ODI and T20Is
Rishabh Pant made a real case for himself as a terrific batsman when he upped his ante in the last 2 Tests against Australia. The southpaw played attacking cricket in SCG Test where he scored an impressive 97 in the fourth innings. His fabulous knock gave India a much-needed boost in the run-chase. In the end, the match ended in a draw.
Pant also scored an unbeaten 89 at The Gabba and hit the winning the runs for the team. India beat Australia by 3 wickets to win the series. With two superb knocks, he pressed his case to be back playing for India across formats. Before the Australian tour, Pant was dropped from the limited-overs squad in the wake of disappointing IPL 2020.
According to Hogg, Pant should be drafted back in the team for ODIs and T20Is. The two-time World Cup winner suggested that Pant should be replacing either Sanju Samson or Shreyas Iyer in the ODI squad.
Talking about Rishabh Pant’s inclusion, Hogg showered praise on the young wicketkeeper-batsman for the two special knocks in Australia. The former Australian bowler suggested Team India should go for a player who can perform the role of an all-rounder rather than having Iyer or Samson.
These two batsmen were the preferred option for India to play in the middle order during the limited-overs leg of the Australian tour. “I would be putting him there right now because he has got confidence and belief. He has proven himself with two match-winning knocks in this Test series.
You can’t get better than that playing for India on Australian soil. I would put him in place of Iyer. Keep your all-round options there for batting and bowling depth. He will be there for either Sanju Samson or Iyer,” Hogg said while speaking on his Youtube channel.
Brad Hogg also went on to suggest that Ajinkya Rahane should replace Virat Kohli as Test captain after the historic Test series win in Australia. Several experts also want Rahane to be the Test captain. Rahane has never lost a single match whenever he has captained Team India. His fantastic captaincy helped India beat Australia in extremely tough circumstances.
“He (Virat Kohli) bats better when he is the captain. I think if you change it, it would destroy the culture of the Indian cricket team. It might affect Kohli’s batting. He wouldn’t want it to happen, but it will happen”, said former Australian chinaman bowler Hogg.
