The captains for the first day’s matches appeared at the press conference a day before the opening matches. Beximco Dhaka captain Mushfiqur Rahim is excited for Shakib’s return although he said he would like Shakib to go off when his team meet Khulna.

“I believe the whole world cricket is waiting. He is the No.1 all-rounder and our No.1 player. We really missed him. I’m hoping he plays well against everyone except us. No problem in that,” Mushfiqur told the reporters.

“It’s (Shakib’s participation) great for the tournament. The young players who will play with and against him will be able to learn a lot from him. It will help in the future. Since there is no foreigners this time it’s a good opportunity for local players to share with him.”

Shakib’s opposition side’s captain Tamim Iqbal believes it will be a big day on Tuesday when Shakib takes the field in the evening match.

“Definitely, it’s a big day for Shakib. He is returning to field after a year. It’s an important day for Bangladesh cricket because a player of such calibre is coming back. I’m sure his fans are also waiting for him,” Barishal captain Tamim said.

“Since it’s a just a game to me I will try to make sure he makes as less impact as possible. At the end of the day, I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m sure he will grow strength to strength from tomorrow.”
