Huge responsibility on Misbah, says Afridi ahead of Bangladesh Test

Former Pakistan star all-rounder Shahid Afridi hopes that Misbah-ul-Haq excels as the national team’s head coach and chief selector.Afridi and Misbah

Pakistan have had mixed results under Misbah ever since he has been appointed to the dual role back in September 2019. While they won the ODI series 2-0 over Sri Lanka, they were whitewashed 3-0 in the following T20I series.

In the Australia series that followed, Pakistan were beaten by a margin of 2-0 in both the T20I and Test series. However, they made a good comeback once again in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, winning it by 1-0. Then they also defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in the three-match T20I series.

Pakistan have always been the most unpredictable side in the world of cricket, and it is evident that they are upholding the reputation under Misbah as well. So it is not quite certain if the side is making progress or not.

But ahead of Pakistan’s next assignment in the form of first Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi from February 7 to 11, Afridi said Misbah has a “huge responsibility” on his shoulder, and the players should also share some of it.

“Misbah has a huge responsibility on how he can deliver and more importantly, it’s the player’s responsibility to take advantage of this opportunity,” said Afridi.

“Right now, we have some good and aggressive players. In terms of the bowling, if you see, we have a good line-up. For batting, we are missing out a few as usual and we normally struggle in this department,” he added.

Afridi also shared one name on whom he had more expectations but had to be disappointed. “I was expecting a lot out of Fakhar Zaman in the opener’s slot but he couldn’t as perform as well,” Afridi stated.

“But other guys are getting a chance here and T20 World Cup is going to start in while, so we should be able to create a good combination ahead of that.”
