I am not disappointed with the Australia series being postponed: Mominul
Australia was scheduled to play two Tests in Bangladesh under the ICC World Test Championship this June. However, two cricket boards- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket Australia (CA) have decided to postpone the tour because of the global pandemic coronavirus.
Bangladesh do not always get much chance of playing a series against big teams like Australia, so it is disappointing that the desired series against Australia is postponed. However, Bangladesh Test team captain Mominul Haque is finding positive side of this postponement.
“I am not disappointed with the series being postponed,” Mominul told sports media ‘Cricbuzz’ on Friday. “Rather, it opens the door for our next full-strength team.”
Mominul is looking at Shakib Al Hasan’s return after spending a year of ban. “If the series goes down next year, we will get Shakib back in the squad,” he said.
Shakib Al Hasan’s ban period will end on October 29. That’s why Shakib will be able to play next year. Apart from this, the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in Australia can be postponed. If the October World Cup goes back a bit, Shakib’s chances of playing will be created. However, Bangladesh’s World Cup game depends on the qualification.
Expecting Shakib to be in the squad, Mominul said, “If Shakib is in the team, everyone is excited. Without him, I had to lean on an extra left-handed spinner. It is a good idea to cancel the series from other perspective. If the series is in April next year, we will get Shakib in our team. As captain, I would definitely like to play with our best cricketer against a team like Australia.”
