I am on top of my game: Gayle after 9-wicket win against MI
Punjab Kings (PBKS) top-order batsman Chris Gayle has said that he’s feeling pretty good and fit, that’s why he seemed comfortable in running between the wickets and took quick singles last night against Mumbai Inians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
In reply of Mumbai’s meagre total of 131 runs, with sensible batting from captain KL Rahul and Gayle on a sluggish track, PBKS won the match comfortably by 9-wickets. Gayle played a good steady innings and remained unbeaten on 43 runs off 35 balls smashing 5 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries while Rahul was calm as always and was unbeaten on 60 runs off 52 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes.
“I am feeling very good, a bit relieved. We wanted this win badly, playing against the defending champions was always going to be tough. They played four games, to actually get this win is fantastic for the team and the Universe Boss as well. I was looking pretty good, running between the wickets, I am feeling fit and good about myself. I am enjoying it, I am looking after my body, getting a lot of massages so I can move freely, humidity here in Chennai also kind of lets the blood flow so I am on top of my game,” Gayle told Arshdeep Singh in a video posted on the official website of IPL.
“The captain KL Rahul played a fantastic innings, we always say that we need a set batter on this wicket, we did a brilliant job from the batting point of view. Mayank and captain set the platform and made it a bit easier. The wicket was not that easy to bat on,” he added.
PBKS registered second win in this year’s IPL last night while MI lost their third match of this season. Both PBKS and MI got 4 points till now in 5 matches.
