opener KL Rahul was surprised to receive the man of the match award in the second T20I match against South Africa
yesterday. He thinks his teammate Suryakumar Yadav
deserves this award. According to him, Suryakumar's innings was more influential than his innings.
Rahul scored 57 off 28 balls against South Africa in Guwahati on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav played a devastating innings of 61 runs off 22 balls. The strike-rate would say the latter is more influential. But the man of the match award went to Rahul. Rahul himself was surprised to see this.
Rahul said after receiving the award, “Quite honestly, after the first two overs, the chat between me and Rohit was that the pitch was gripping. We thought 180-185 would be a good target. But the game surprises us. I am surprised I am getting the Man of the Match award, Surya should have gotten it. He changed the game. Having batted in the middle order, I have realized that it is difficult. DK doesn't always get too many balls to face, and he was phenomenal, and so were Surya and Virat.”
After being sent to bat first, India set a huge target of 238 runs. Rahul built a strong base of 96 runs with Rohit Sharma
in the opening pair. Due to his excellent batting, India were heading towards a big score. But what turned that big score into a huge score was Suryakumar Yadav.
