'I am very happy that Shakib will not play,' says du Plessis

Ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Proteas captain Faf du Plessis says that he is happy that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is not playing the Test series for Bangladesh.

“He is a senior player, and someone who performs well in different conditions. So it will be a huge loss for them. I am very happy that he will not play,” said du Plessis.

The Proteas skipper of all three format of the game further added, “That’s a big loss for them. Shakib is a fantastic player. He has been top all rounder in world for quite some time.”

Meanwhile, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) appointed a new coach in West Indian Ottis Gibson and Du Plessis said it was an opportunity to get back to winning ways after a losing tour of England earlier this year.

He said of Gibson: “He wants to observe and see how we go about things and as time goes on he can start making a few decisions on what changes he wants to make. He has given a few fresh ideas to the bowling unit.”
