I could be like Shakib if played T20 cricket: Rafique
Mohammad Rafique, the first Bangladesh bowler to take 100 wickets in Test cricket, rues not playing much T20 cricket during his career. Rafique, before retiring in 2006 from international cricket, had played just one T20 match. But now he feels he could be someone like Shakib if he played more T20 matches. “There wasn’t T20 cricket in our time. But I think I could make a very good T20 cricketer. Had I played T20 cricket, I think I could have become as successful as Shakib,” said Rafique. [Read also: ইংল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে ৪০০ রান তাড়া করে জিতবে বাংলাদেশ]
After taking one wicket and scoring 22 off 8 balls in the ongoing Masters Cricket Carnival (MCC) in Cox’s Bazaar, Rafique also claimed, “Actually T20 is a game of basics. You just need to show your basics in a T20 match to succeed.
“I got to play here with the players mostly same age to me, so it was easier for me to do well. But I don’t think age is a big factor in this format of the game. The game is short in length, so age isn’t important. It’s more important how you execute your capability on the field,” added Rafique who has one century and seven fifers to his name in Test cricket.
