I have learnt a lot from MS Dhoni: Rishabh Pant
Delhi Capitals’ new captain Rishabh Pant can take pride in the fact that his side got the better of MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in their opening fixture at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
CSK performed exceptionally well with the bat as they posted a massive total on the scoreboard. The three-time IPL champions managed to score 188/7 in 20 overs. Suresh Raina’s comeback was so amazing as he scored a scintillating half-century.
Raina top-scored for CSK with 54 off 36 balls including 3 fours and 4 sixes to his name. He maintained a sensational strike rate of 150. Moeen Ali also played well for his 36 off 24 balls that included 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Sam Curran scored 34 off 15 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 226.67. His short cameo in the end powered CSK to a massive total. In reply, Delhi Capitals chased down the target quite comfortably.
Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw added a 138-run stand for the opening wicket. Shaw scored 72 off 38 balls including 9 fours and 3 sixes whereas Dhawan top-scored with 85 off 54 balls. His innings included 10 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 157.41.
MS Dhoni has been my go to man: Rishabh Pant
“It always feels good when you get the win in the end. In the middle phase, I was under some pressure. But Avesh and Tom (Curran) did well in the middle to restrict them to 188. It was very special walking out for the toss with MS. He has been my go to man.
I have learnt a lot from him. We were thinking as to what we will do without Nortje and Rabada and I thought we had to do with the options we have. No, there was no effort for the NRR as it is still early stages in the tournament.
Prithvi and Shikhar did well for us in the powerplay. They kept it simple and played some good cricketing shots,” Pant concluded at the post-match presentation.
