“I said this is a God? ” Shoaib Akhtar recalls first encounter with Sachin
Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as the god of batting for the Indians as well as to the cricket fans. He is the owner of the highest runs in ODI and Test cricket by the same name. Tendulkar was also the god of batting for Pakistan’s speed star Shoaib Akhtar. But Shoaib was disappointed to see Sachin helpless at speed for the first encounter.
Shoaib recalled the 1999 India-Pakistan Kolkata Test. In the very early stage of the match, Shoaib bowled Rahul Dravid in the first phase with a great yorker. He then bowled Tendulkar with a superb inswinging yorker off the first ball. Eden’s gallery at that time was looking stagnant. Shoaib then said in his mind, this is the condition of God.
“I heard Sachin was the god. I said this is a God? Iss ki khairiyat nahi. He didn’t recognize me, and I didn’t recognize him. He was in his own attitude and I was in my attitude. But I wanted to get him out on the first ball and that happened,” Akhtar told ARY News.
Shoaib has taken Tendulkar’s wicket eight times in his international career. In the India-Pakistan match, Shoaib Akhtar’s violence with Sachin-Dravid was good. He has dismissed Dravid nine times in his career. But after all this time, Shoaib’s remarks will surely provoke anger in the Indian cricket community. Let’s see who retaliates against Shoaib Akhtar.
