Combination of Andre Russell, Mahmudullah and Shuvagata batting, the first victory of BPL was picked up by Minister Group Dhaka. Fortune Barishal coach Khaled Mahmud Sujon sees more failure of batter than bowlers since taking 4 wickets for 10 runs.
I think batting was the failure: Sujon
Barishal lost three wickets for 23 runs. The team captain Shakib Al Hasan tried to pull it back with Gayle from there. He was not able to carry the innings big even after being set. Shakib's 23, Gayle's 36 and Bravo's unbeaten 33 helped Barishal to 129 runs.
On the low-scoring pitch in Mirpur, the target looked like a decent total. Barishal even took 4 wickets in 10 runs. They were smelling another win. But eventually they ended in the losing side. Which the head coach of Barishal cannot digest. Sujon wanted to see the Gayle-Bravo's team to score around 150 as the wickets during the game were better than before.
Sujon says, "Honestly, we didn't scored enough. Regular wickets fell, no pair in the top order. In this format it becomes difficult if the top order batter do not get a run. Because when the wicket falls, there is no freedom to play big shots."
"I think the wicket was good today but we could not apply it properly. 129 runs… maybe you can win.
He also added, "We started well (four for 10). But we could not take any more wickets from there. That is why it has become easy for them. It must be admitted that Riyad and Shuvagata batted well. "
"The run has been reduced - we should have done 150-160. I think batting is a failure, nothing more."
Once again, the top order of Fortune Barishal again failed in the second match. Therefore head coach demands bigger score from top order batter against Comilla Victorians.
"We have a match against Comilla tomorrow. Hopefully someone from the top order will make a big run. If we had not given wickets in today's match or even scored 60 runs in 10 overs, the batsmen in our middle order could have easily scored 150 runs,” he concluded.
