“I think we just took it somewhat simple with the bat”- England coach
England coach Trevor Bayliss thinks that their batsman took the match against Sri Lanka slightly easy and so they played some careless shots which cost them the match.
“What turned out badly? Clearly our batting,” Bayliss said. “I thought our bowling was really great. It was sublime.
“I think we just took it somewhat simple with the bat, to be completely honest. We thought whether we simply bat a touch of time we’ll put together a partnership. I think we forgot about the procedure we actually go through to put those partnerships together. That puts you under a touch of pressure towards the back end and that gave Sri Lanka certainty. They positively bowled well. They hit their lengths and changed their pace,” he said.
Just two days ago on Friday, Majestic Malinga and magnificent Mathews glittered in their own special way to shock the title aspirant England by 20 runs in low scoring match. Chasing the target of 232 runs, England were bundled out at just 212 runs.
“With the bat we weren’t as busy as we typically seem to be. Ordinarily, on a wicket like this one, which wasn’t the most easiest to play big shots on, regardless we’re busy and thumping singles around into the gaps I don’t figure we did that all around ok.
“We didn’t build those partnerships. If we’d appeared same earnestness toward the beginning of the innings as we did toward the end, we would have been in a better place,” Bayliss said.
England will face Australia in an all-important match against Australia on Tuesday, June 25 at the home of cricket Lord’s in London.
