‘I want everyone in Bangladesh cricket to set a standard in fielding’
Bangladesh have been pretty poor in fielding recently. From the Caribbean series at home, their fielding had not been up to the standard. It declined much in the New Zealand series and recently concluded Sri Lanka series. So, the poor performance in fielding has caught the eye of many former cricketers and fans.
National team selector Habibul Bashar Sumon thinks that fielding mistakes can be overcome only if cricketers do a little extra work on fielding.
According to Bashar, if the Bangladesh team wants to establish its own brand of cricket, they will have to pay more attention to the fielding department. He told BDCricTime, “We have to create a culture in Bangladesh cricket for ourselves. What brand of cricket we want to play or how we want to introduce our cricket.”
He also claims that it is relatively easier to improve in fielding than batting or bowling. “Fielding is a very important place where there is always room for improvement. Extraordinary talent is often needed to do well in batting and bowling. But you can improve fielding with a little effort,” he added.
“Not only Bangladesh team, I want everyone in Bangladesh cricket to set a standard in fielding. Then the national team will be able to do well. There was some complexity due to coronavirus. But I don’t want to use it as an excuse. We are relatively a young team. There are veterans, but I expect better fielding from the youngsters.”
