I want to bat at number three: Shakib Al Hasan

During the preparatory stages of Bangladesh before flying off to Ireland, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was under a bit of frown for not returning to the country from the Indian Premier League to participate in the team’s training session.

But the premier performer blew off all the criticisms with his sublime performance in the field. His bat shone during the one-off practice match against Ireland XI where Bangladesh suffered a big defeat and once again Shakib Al Hasan’s run a ball 61 cruised the subcontinent side to achieve the comfortable 8 wicket victory against Windies in their first match in the Tri-nation series.

With a World Cup 2019 is in close distance, world number one all-rounder said it would be preferable to him to be able to bat at number three.

“There was a time when I had to come on to the crease before first 10 overs even if I batted on number five. But now things have changed, I don’t get a chance to bat before 35-40 overs if I bat at number five position,” he said after winning against West Indies.

“For me I think [batting] the earlier the better. So personally speaking I want to play on number three. I have also expressed my desire to the coach and the captain, but I don’t have any problem to play anywhere for the team,”

Shakib Al Hasan said.

Bangladesh open their World Cup campaign on June 2 against South Africa at The Oval.
