After getting injured during the 2015 World Cup, the right hand batsman Anamul Haque couldn’t get the chance to wear the national team’s jersey again. Despite being consistent in the domestic cricket, he was not called up in any recent series of Bangladesh.
Before the announcement of the test squad for the tour of South Africa, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon suggested Anamul’s name to the selectors but that couldn’t still make his away to the squad as selectors preferred Imrul Kayes & Soumya Sarkar ahead of him yet again.
But the wicket-keeper batsman isn’t giving up yet and he took away all the spotlight in the first round of NCL with a brilliant double hundred. The match between Khulna and Rangpur was drawn in the end but Anamul’s 216 runs stands out to the top.
After the end of the match, Anamul was engaged in a conversation with a reporter and he explained his feeling of not being able to play for the national team: “Everyone hopes to play for the national team. I hope that too. I want to wear that red-green jersey too. For that, I want to continue playing well.”
Despite of not getting a spot in the national team, Anamul knows too that he is performing well. He said “In cricket, ups & downs will always remain. I am working everyday to improve myself and for self satisfaction its important to play well. Its important for the team as well.”
When asked is he was too cautious on his way to his first double hundred he said: “It didn’t even came in my mind to be cautious. Good thing is, I have a habit of scoring runs. Because of this habit I don’t feel nervous when I’m on my way of achieving a milestone.
He was also asked before getting to double hundred, was he able to sleep because of excitement. Anamul said: “Its obvious that I was excited. But that excitement didn’t ruin my sleep. Because I always score runs. That’s why it doesn’t mean when I don’t score runs, I am not able to sleep.”
The confidence level of Anamul Haque seems to be high after scoring his first double hundred and his never give up attitude defines his mental strength. But will he be able to sleep when he will get a call up in the national team again? Time will say that…
