“We are going to be the hosts for ICC U-19 women’s World Cup. The coronavirus  pandemic delayed the tournament. It’s going to be held in December this year,” BCB women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel said on Thursday.

The tournament will see 16 teams taking part. BCB has already started to look for players ahead of the event. The selection process will be done from divisional regions as BCB aims U-17 women’s teams from all districts.

In 2016, Bangladesh hosted U-19 men’s World Cup when home team reached the semi-finals under the captaincy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

As far as men’s senior cricket is concerned, the 2011 50-over World Cup (jointly with India and Sri Lanka) and the 2014 World T20 (now T20 World Cup) were staged in Bangladesh.
