ICC World Cup 2019: Lakshmipathy Balaji names another contender for India’s number 4
Even though the Indian team is currently the strongest team in the world, they still have the voids in the team.
They have the best batting line-up but they are still finding their number four batsman. Rayudu, who came into the Indian team after the successful IPL season in 2018, was not in good touch during Australia’s tour. Eventually, he was dropped from the team and the number four position was taken by the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni.
However, Rayudu made a strong comeback with his brilliant knocks against New Zealand and has cemented his place for the upcoming World Cup event.
In the meantime, the former Indian cricketer, Lakshmipathy Balaji has put another name for the number four spot for the World Cup.
“So far he (Vijay Shankar) has proven himself as a batsman. With his batting ability, now he is pushing his case very very strongly. India are always trying to fill someone at the No. 4 spot. If Vijay Shankar comes good, you have another option for that spot. Vijay Shankar is making a strong case now for a top-order spot. His name will definitely be discussed,” Balaji said.
“Definitely. Vijay Shankar will be part of India’s World Cup squad. He has produced results with his bat. He should be there because he has showcased his immense potential in the limited chances he has got,” he added.
He will be considered as one of the important reserves. He may not be fitting in the playing XI, but you need a strong bench strength. You reserve need to fight for spots in the XI,” Balaji concluded.
The Tamil Nadu all-rounder, Vijay Shankar has got opportunities to play in the main eleven in the limited-overs format against New Zealand. Though he could not do much in the ODI series, he proved his worth with the bat in the T20I series against Kiwis.
