Shakib, after receiving man of the match trophy at the end of a high-scoring encounter against West Windies, wittingly said albeit being not sure why he backed for that particular spot, it is paying off now.

“Not sure why I backed myself for the No. 3 spot (laughs), but I thought if I batted at 3 I will get more opportunities and more time in the middle. If I bat at 5, I will get in at the 30th over or something, and that’s not ideal for me honestly,”

Shakib said.

His bowling performance falls in the shadow of batting, Shakib have 5 wickets in his count to this far at the CWC 2019; even today, and he scalped 2 wickets in the Caribbean line-up.

Shakib gracefully prioritized the aspect of staying unbeaten during his 124, also said belief was there that if batting had flowered, Bangladesh could chase down the big total of 321.

“It feels great. To stay at the wicket till the end was the most satisfying thing. I have been working on batting for the last one and a half months, and it has paid off,” he said.

“At the end of the first innings, we believed that if we bat well we can win. It was a reasonable total posted by the West Indies,” Shakib said.

Shakib, meanwhile jumped straight to the next target, the match against Australia.

He said, “We have to bring our A-game against Australia at the top of their form. I hope the fans will keep supporting us, and they have been magnificent throughout the World Cup.”
