I’m hungry to score more runs than ever before: Amla
Hashim Amla has been one of the consistent batsman for South Africa since he announce his arrival. He has recently stressed on the fact that he is hungrier to perform than ever before, which goes to show his will power for the upcoming tournament.
“I am hungrier than ever before, there is no doubt about that. I have been blessed to have this shirt for a while but the time off has made me want to come back stronger,” he said.
“But I am a firm believer that when something happens, there is some good in it. I have had time away and now I am really looking forward to wearing the green and gold again.
The veteran is playing his third ICC World Cup and he knows exactly what he needs to do to give sound confidence to the team in England, conditions where he has always enjoyed playing with.
“This is my third (ICC Cricket World Cup) so I know what it is all about. I have a strong record in England and I have always enjoyed coming here.”
South Africa will commence their World Cup campaign against the hosts England on May 30 at The Oval.
Despite the fact that England are favourites, Amla believes that their underdog tag will help them go into the tournament with less pressure and expectations.
“At the end of the day, we always gave our best and played to win. The fact there has not been a lot of chat at this World Cup means there is less expectation but in the team, we think we can do well,” added Amla.
