Tamim Iqbal, after hogging headlines prior the game owing to his poor form, has finally ended his century drought during the second ODI against Zimbabwe on Tuesday, as the left-hander smacked 158 off 136 balls.

Zimbabwe were close to chasing a big score while they were batting. At the end, they finished the match with just 6 runs away from the 323-run target. “When Zimbabwe’s score was 140, Sikandar Raza was batting. Then we bowlers were discussing with each other. The ball was coming easy in bat because of a little dew. That’s a problem,” Mashrafe said.

“Two set batsmen were batting who were left-handed and right-handed in Miraz’s over. There were also some fogs. It was difficult for Taijul at that time. Because of that I changed him fast. I also bowl four overs by Riyad. At that time, there was no opportunity for Miraz. In the way, they’re playing pace bowlers, it was much difficult.”

Mashrafe said in the match there had a little more dew. And the wicket was much helpful from the previous match.

About Saifuddin’s rest, he said “The record of the two players playing is good in past matches. But the day can be good for anyone. Saifuddin is always a special death bowler, but he could do worse.”

“But it was very difficult for Zimbabwe to bring the match to this stage. If Sikandar Raza and Donald Tiripano bat longer, the match could have ended. In the middle there was 50-50 chance. In the end, the match was such that we could lose.”

If there is a deficit in the team, what can be done to do so? “It took us a long time to get a Shakib,” Mashrafe said. “Saifuddin is also playing with a knock. Playing was a problem because of his fracture.

“Because if he is injured now, he will pull for a year and a half. And the management knows how to manage Mustafizur. But despite losing the match, I was in favor of not playing Saifuddin. And the management might want to have a bigger match up front, to keep him and Mustafizur ready.”
