Many seniors, including captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, will rest for the upcoming five-game T20 series against South Africa ahead of the marquee tour of England in July. The Gujarat Titans (GT) performed sensationally well under Hardik's leadership in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) as GT became the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs.

“All senior Indian players are given at least three and a half weeks of full recovery. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh and Jasprit will all head straight to England for the 'fifth test' after the white ball series. We need all of our key players to stay fresh for the England series," a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.
As part of workload management, all top-tier players of all formats will not participate in the next seven T20 Internationals.
When asked about the captaincy, the source said: "The selectors have a couple of options. Shikhar Dhawan as he already captained India during last year's series in Sri Lanka in the absence of Virat, Rohit and Rahul. But Hardik Pandya's impressive captaincy at the Gujarat Titans hasn't gone unnoticed. So it's going to be tight," he added.
