Following their historic series win against South Africa in the away series, India has claimed the number one spot in the ICC ODI ranking pushing South Africa back to the second spot.
The subcontinent giants sealed the six match 4-1 on Tuesday at the Port Elizabeth defeating the hosts by 73 runs in the fifth match of the series. India gained a total of 119 points to lead the nations in the limited over cricket.
Virat Kohli also led India to be the number one team in Test cricket as well. Whatever the result might come out in the sixth and last match of the series, India will remain be in the top.
This is, however, the first ever bilateral ODI series win in South Africa for India. India claimed a 6 wicket win in the first match in Durban; the second win was ever bigger as they came out winning by 9 wickets. In the third match in Cape Town, South Africa were defeated by 124 runs.
The home team saw their sole win in the fourth ODI, the Proteas claimed a 5 wicket win in the rain affected match and eventually lost the series in the fifth match at the Port Elizabeth.
For other teams, England (116) have moved up to third after gaining two points and New Zealand (115) have risen to fourth after earning three points.
