India seal an easy innings win
India seal an easy innings win over Windies by beating them by an innings and 272 runs on the third day itself of the first Test of the two match Test series in Rajkot.
Windies have started their full tour of India with the first Test match in Rajkot and unfortunately the visitors were unable to get a winning start as the hosts completely dominated them in the first of two longest format of the game.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Consequently Indian batsmen went on to put 649 runs for nine wickets before the captain called off their 1st innings. Indian captain Virat Kohli, new opening batsman Prithvi Shaw and Ravindra Jadeja scored centuries each.
After declaring the innings on day 2, Indian bowlers took themselves in to the game in the evening session of day 2. Windies batsmen struggled a lot against the bowling attack of hosts. At the end of day 2, Windies were 94/6.
Roston Chase and Keema Paul started the day 3 for Windies on 27 and 13 respectively. Both the lower order batsmen had a good first hour of play with a half century stand between them before Umesh Yadav removing Keemo Paul on 47.
On the other end Roston Chase went on to score 53 before Ashwin trapped him. After the break through of seventh wicket partnership Windies 1st innings collapsed completely for only 181 runs which conceded them a 468 runs first innings lead and subsequently India enforced follow on and asked them to start their second innings.
In the bowling side, right arm off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 wickets. Mohammed Shami stayed on two wickets which he had taken on day 2. Ravindra Jadeja, Umesh Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.
In the second innings also the same story continued to Windies like in the first innings. Even though the openers started the innings on a positive note, but it didn’t last long form them as the skipper Kraigg Brathwaite was dismissed on 10 runs.
All the Windies batsmen were trapped by the Indian spin attack except the other opener Kieran Powell who scored 83 runs. Other batsmen failed to score more than 20 runs for their name which costed an innings loss for Windies as they managed to score only 196.
Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets and Ravindra Jadeja managed to add three to his name. Prithvi Shaw has been awarded as the man of the match for his ton in the very first innings of the format.
