India have bounced back strongly in the Nidahas Trophy with a comprehensive six-wicket over Bangladesh in the second match at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Bangladesh’s tournament starts with a loss.
Bangladesh posted a modest total of 139/8 after being put into bat by India. No Bangladesh batsmen could settle in and play a bigger knock. A big partnership was also missing in their innings.
Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar got starts but fell in the powerplay. Mushfiqur Rahim too got dismissed after getting a start. Liton Das was promoted up to no.3. He offered a couple of chances but stayed at the other end as Bangladesh middle-order failed to contribute including skipper Mahmudullah Riyad.
Liton made 30-ball 34 hitting only 3 boundaries. Sabbir Rahman was needed to deliver something. He scored 30 runs from 26 balls with 3 fours and a six to give Bangladesh at least something to defend.
Jaydev Unadkat was expensive than others in the day but bagged three wickets. Vijay Shankar took two wickets. Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar bowled economically.
Chasing 140, openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan made positive start. However Mustafizur Rahman got Rohit inside-edged onto the stumps. Rubel Hossain bowled Rishabh Pant in another inside-edged dismissal.
