India’s batting coach feels that Rohit can shine in Test too
Indian new batting coach Vikram Rathour feels that Indian batsman Rohit Sharma can shine in all three formats of the game.
Vikram Rathour has been appointed as the new batting coach of India, following the service from Sanjay Bangar at the position for the last few years. The former Indian cricketer will begin his new role with the Indian cricket team with the home series against South Africa.
There is a big challenge waiting for him in the Test format in the format of the opening batsman. India are now struggling to find a good opening pair for the last one year. For the South Africa Test series, India are aiming to try Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as the partner for in form Mayank Agarwal.
Speaking about Rohit Sharma’s stinct at the Test level, the newly appointed batting coach belives that Rohit Sharma can carry his red hot form against the red ball too like what he is doing against the white ball.
“He is too good a player to not be playing in any game. That is what is everyone is thinking. He has done so well in white-ball cricket as an opener so there is no reason why he can’t succeed as a Test opener provided he gets enough opportunities,” Rathour said.
Further the former Indian cricketer didn’t confirm anything about the opening pair for the first Test against South Africa. “At the moment, I am not too sure what the playing eleven for the first Test will be but if Rohit does well and is opening, why not,” Rathour concluded.
