IPL 2019: Harchelle Gibbs makes a proposal to join RCB next season
Former South African hard-hitting batsman Herschelle Gibbs expressed his willingness to take over the Royal Challengers Bangalore group as a head coach for the next season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that via social media after RCB’s last match of this season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, May 4.
It was another disappointing season for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they finished the season at the bottom of the table with 11 points in 14 matches. However, they ended the season in style by beating Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets.
After the win, RCB thanked their fans for the support throughout the whole season and posted a tweet: “Chinnaswamy & Bengaluru: THANK YOU. You Challengers give us goosebumps. Neev illa andhre, naavu yenu alla. Without you guys, we’re nothing.”
Many fans and followers replied the tweet. Among them, Virat Kohli’s idol Herschelle Gibbs also replied: “If you guys need a coach, I am available.” However, after some times he deleted the reply but he hinted about his availability for the job successfully.
RCB failed to make it to play-offs for the consecutive two season now under their present head coach Gary Kirtsen. So, it is not impossible that they might be looking for new coach for the next season.
Harchelle Gibbs had much experience at the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he played there from 2008-2012 for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. He’s also a part of the Deccan Chargers team when they won the IPL trophy in 2008. For Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, Gibbs scored 886 runs at an average of 27.68 in 36 matches.
