IPL 2020: Delhi announce Woakes’ replacement

Proteas right-arm seam bowler Anrich Nortje has been roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) as a potential replacement of English all-rounder Chris Woakes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Earlier, Woakes withdrew his name from IPL 2020 to keep himself fresh for the English summer He was bought by Delhi for INR 1.5 crore.

Nortje was previously part of IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last edition. But he was ruled out of the tournament with shoulder injury and couldn’t able to debut in the most popular franchise league in the world. However, this time he shared his excitement to be a part of DC franchise.

“I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season. With its exciting mix of experienced and young players, and a stellar coaching line up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me,”

Nortje was quoted as saying in the press release.

Nortje is considered as one of the future star of South Africa cricket. He was named Cricket South Africa’s Newcomer of the Year for 2020. He will join his teammate, another pacer, Kagiso Rabada in Delhi team.

26-year old Nortje has picked a total of 19 wickets from 6 Test matches, 14 wickets from 7 ODIs, and 2 wickets from 3 T20Is.
