The team that was in the danger of getting out from the tournament with just one win in the first seven matches is now on the verge of a play-off with five wins in a row. Gayle has played in these five matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders lost to Punjab yesterday in Sharjah. Lokesh Rahul’s team has risen to number four in the points table displacing Kolkata to number five.

Punjab won this match with ease because of Gayle. The target was 150 runs. When the Caribbean batting giants got out for 51 runs off just 29 balls, Punjab were just 3 runs away from victory. Gayle hit 2 fours and 5 sixes in his innings.

Mandeep Singh also had a big contribution in this big victory. Although he was not as aggressive as Gayle, he left the field after winning the match by scoring 66 runs off 56 balls. Besides, another opener Rahul scored 28 runs off 25 balls.

Earlier, Kolkata managed to score just 149 runs for loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Shubman Gill hit another half-century in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored 57 runs off 45 balls.

Mohammed Shami was the most successful bowler for Punjab with 3 wickets.

Chris Gayle was adjusted man of the match for his blistering innings.
